E-learning

7 December 2022 | ZOOM, Austria

Did you know that December is the Month of Solidarity? We, as SALTO European Solidarity Corps felt inspired by UN, who declared 20 December of each year International Human Solidarity Day and decided to celebrate Solidarity during the entire month!

The 7th of December is dedicated to a first discussion about the connection between volunteering and solidarity. We have with us two international experts, one with experience in global volunteerism and one with a great knowledge of European realities in relation with volunteering.

Gabriella Civico – is from the UK, but moving to Belgium and becoming a Belgian citizen. She has a degree in Social Policy and Education from the University of Surrey (UK), and a Masters in Education in E-learning from the University of Hull (UK). Gabriella has volunteered since childhood in a variety of fields, including youth advocacy, international development, disability, environment, migration, human rights and sports. Through her work in the youth field, she was involved in the campaign to establish 2011 as the European Year of Volunteering. Her current role is as Director at Centre for European Volunteering. In this role, she manages over 60 member organisations, facilitating their sharing and learning together on volunteering and solidarity issues.

Oliver Wittershagen is a firm believer in life-long learning and living proof of the theory that one will potentially have more than five careers in a lifetime. He started as journalist and then became a lawyer. He had served the UN system for over 15 years. As UNV Programme Officer in Guyana and Timor-Leste he recruited and managed some 100+ UN Volunteers. Currently he works as as facilitator, trainer and coach in areas including volunteerism, volunteer management, capacity development, corporate management, project management – where he prepared more than 1000 UN Volunteers for their assignments. he has two German law degrees, holds an LLM from Stockholm University, and completed the programme management track of the Virtual Development Academy of UNDP and the Columbia University, School of International and Public Affairs.
