Position SUMMARY

The YES Programs Local Coordinator is responsible for functions related to implementation of the Kennedy-Lugar YES and YES Abroad programs in Banja Luka, while supporting and aiding the Country Representative and staff based in Sarajevo as needed. The position reports to the Country Representative in Sarajevo and works in conjunction with Washington-based program managers and colleagues in Central and Southeast Europe. This is a full-time position: 40hrs/week with some flexibility in scheduling.

Position Responsibilities

  1. Assist in the coordination of the YES Program:

Assist in the implementation of all components of the YES program cycle in Bosnia and Herzegovina including:
YES participant recruitment (securing testing locations, conducting student testing, interviews, informational meetings for students and parents at testing locations across Bosnia and Herzegovina, processing applications, and data tracking),
Departure and arrival travel for YES finalists,
Provide on-program support for YES participants and their parents in coordination with Washington DC staff.
Represent the YES program in Banja Luka and relevant region, communicate accordingly with the local Immigration Office, local institutions, local media, U.S. Embassy Branch Office, and other official institutions as needed.
Promote YES program year-round, through communication with schools and relevant organizations, online promotion, and social media presence.
Support alumni programming in Banja Luka and pertinent region.
Other duties as assigned.

  1. Coordination of the YES Abroad Program in Banja Luka:

Plan and implement all components of the YES Abroad program cycle in Banja Luka:
Host family recruitment, selection, orientation, and financial arrangements (stipends, reimbursements, etc.),
Host school selection,
Student arrival and departure travel logistics,
Local visa support,
Regular host family and student meetings,
Arrival, mid-year, and end-of-program orientations,
Local language instruction,
Participant engagement in community service,
Cultural excursions and activities,
On-program support, which includes logistical, administrative, emotional support to participants and host families, facilitation of medical and dental services, monitoring of overall participant adjustment process and progress in school.
Represent the YES Abroad program in Banja Luka and communicate accordingly with the local Immigration Office, local institutions, local media, U.S. Embassy Branch Office, and other official institutions as needed.
Provide as-needed updates on any time-sensitive issues; report monthly on the progress/status of participants placed in Banja Luka to the Sarajevo office; and provide requisite reporting for quarterly reports to the Department of State.
Promote the YES Abroad program by publishing and forwarding stories and photos to country, regional, DC offices and social media networks and send to ECA and in-country partners.

  1. Coordinates projects, cooperates, and supports YES alumni in Banja Luka when necessary.

Administrative and Financial Duties:
Help develop program budgets for Banja Luka, and provide financial reporting and analysis of program expenditures when requested.
Support the development and revision of YES Abroad procedures and materials for use across Southeast Europe.
Other duties as assigned.

  1. Actively works on finding new funding and development opportunities for American Councils. Assists with the development, planning and organization of any other program implemented by American Councils, in line with all the above assumed administrative and financial duties.Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent, in a relevant field of study
BiH citizenship or permanent residence permit
Experience in exchange program administration is preferable
Outstanding time management, organization, networking, and planning skills
Excellent teamwork and communication skills
Ability to problem-solve and take initiative
Demonstrated excellence in communication and multicultural interpersonal skills
Fluent in English and B/C/S
Familiarity with the education systems in BiH
Experience traveling under difficult conditions
Flexibility to occasional work on weekends and evenings
Experience in budget management
Familiarity with Microsoft Office software suite and common social media platforms
Additional Information about the Position

This position requires occasional work in the evenings or during weekends, and occasional travel with program participants within Bosnia and Herzegovina. Candidates are expected to demonstrate readiness to learn and adapt to new situations.
