Study Visit: Anti-racism (youth) work in Vienna

12-15 October 2022 | Vienna, Austria

This study visit explores the question how youth work addresses (anti)-racism. During the activity we will hear experts, visit local projects and meet self-advocacy organizations to see and discuss challenges and good practices in anti-racism work.

What is in for you?

Whom is this Study Visit for?

Background

To address the topic of (cultural) diversity, SALTO Inclusion & Diversity works on topics such as anti-racism, interfaith dialogue etc. for a period of two years each. Under the titel of “Embracing diversity” a series of activities such as seminars, webinars, study visits, partnership building activities and training courses will be implemented.

The overall aim is to explore different forms of diversity and strengthen youth workers ‘diversity management’ skills. The study visit in Vienna is part of the first series, which focuses on “(anti) racism“.

The motto of our European Union is: ‘United in diversity’. Then why is the struggle for racial equality not over, and seems that it is just starting now in many places through important, big movements, like “Black Lives Matter”? What is racism and how can youth work address it?

Those are some of the questions that all planned activities will be looking into and dealing with, focusing on the needs of the participants, raising awareness, and thinking about how racism connects with pressing topics such as employability, social issues, civil society and politics, migrants and refugees.

Saftey and Covid-19

In our activities we support the principle of a safer space, where no-one is discriminated or bullied because of their background or person. We want you to respect the same principle.

We are closely monitoring the situation with Covid-19 and will take all measures necessary for the safeness of participants. In order to apply you should familiarise yourself with the Covid-19 rules when traveling to Austria. Note that the rules might change before the training course: https://www.austria.info/en/service-and-facts/coronavirus-information/entry-regulations
