ORIUNITE International Training – Orienteering for Peacebuilding and Youth Engagement
This 4-day international training course, held in Zagreb (Croatia), is part of ORIUNITE – an Erasmus+ Sport project that uses orienteering as a tool for dialogue, reconciliation, and cross-border cooperation in post-conflict regions. The training will bring together youth workers, educators and sport facilitators from across Europe to explore how sport, education and storytelling can promote peaceful coexistence among communities historically divided by conflict.
Throughout the training, participants will:
- Gain practical skills in planning inclusive orienteering events;
- Learn to design and deliver awareness workshops for schools and youth centres;
- Explore how to organise community-based cultural activities that foster intercultural dialogue;
- Share best practices from their countries (e.g. Cyprus, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Germany, Italy, etc.);
- Build local action plans to be implemented in their respective territories after the training.
Participants will also engage in field exercises, simulations, and collaborative group work. Sessions will be led by experienced trainers from organisations active in non-formal education, intercultural learning, youth participation, and sport-based peacebuilding.
Target Group
The training is addressed to:
- Participants with prior experience in orienteering or with the possibility to collaborate with local orienteering clubs are strongly encouraged to apply.
- Youth workers, educators, NGO staff and trainers working in non-formal education;
- Sport educators and volunteers working with young people in community or cross-border settings;
- Organisations interested in using sport for social change, peace and reconciliation.
Why ORIUNITE?
Many communities across Europe still face the consequences of division and conflict. ORIUNITE seeks to empower young people and educators to use orienteering – a sport based on maps, movement, and problem-solving – as a symbol of unity and a tool for social impact.
Join us in Zagreb to learn, connect, and co-create meaningful activities that can help bridge divides and foster inclusive participation through sport and education.
